Month: March 2017

Be a part of the Singapore Instagram Community

I have recently chanced upon an article titled “Is Instagram the new gateway to photography?” And couldn’t help but strongly agree with the author. The very first app I click on my smartphone is not Facebook, it’s Instagram. Not to mention if you’re a photography advocate yourself, the Instagram app would appeal to you so much more. We all strive to perfect a photo. If it’s not Instagram worthy, where does it go to? Facebook, I would suppose. Well, I don’t know about you. But that goes for me.

I’m not going to dive too deep into the realms of social media. I just wanted to share how this app was able to bring together a community of people who share the same interest in photography in Singapore. Founder of @SGIG, Ivan also known as @phonenomenon on Instagram has garnered about 15K followers on his Instagram account, of which consists of mainly photography enthusiasts in Singapore.

SGIG – The Singapore Instagram Community

SGIG would host monthly meetups and photowalks where instagrammers of Singapore come together. It’s more of a social activity where people who share a common interest – photography come together. A typical conversation starter would go like this: “eh your photos very nice leh” or “what camera do you use for your instagram” or “wa how did you take this shot”

14/03/17: [REC] By Alan Photo had the honour to host their March meet up! Everyone had the privilege of famous fashion photographer – Mr Lance Lee who flew back to Singapore for a short trip, conduct a studio beauty photography workshop for a maximum of 50 participants!

The workshop conducted by Lance was definitely an insightful one as we received so much positive feedback from the attendees! You can watch it Live on our facebook page at www.facebook.com/recbyalanphoto

Trust me when I say that these people are a fun bunch! Everyone were so warm and welcoming. It’s definitely worth it when you get to have fun and learn from others at the same time.

For more info about their monthly meetups and gatherings, don’t forget to follow their Instagram page @SGIG

If you have not created an Instagram account, I would believe it’s time you do 😉

Get work done in a jiffy with Tethertools

Tethered photography can play a crucial role in terms of efficiency for many professional photographers. What is tethered photography, you may ask.

A tethered photography workflow allows images you capture to be transferred and saved directly onto one’s computer’s hard drive. The tethering software will then display the images on the larger computer/tablet screen captured by you for a clearer and closer look. Basically, tethering can help you get the perfect photo in fewer shots, as having images shown on a larger screen is a great way for you and your clients to spot issues with focus, lighting, posing or composition quicker, and thus enhancing efficiency in your photo works.

Now, everyone wouldn’t need to be crowding around your camera’s tiny LCD screen to view the image you’ve taken. Your client can view images instantly on the bigger screen as you capture them.

A long list of Benefits to Shooting Tethered:

  • View images on a large monitor as you shoot
  • Instantly see images at full resolution
  • Check critical focus, composition, styling, etc.
  • Adjust lighting and camera settings more quickly and easily
  • Control camera settings and remote trigger from connected device
  • Share images with art director/client on site or remotely
  • Collaborate more effectively with assistants, stylists and subjects
  • Tag, rate, compare and share images while you shoot
  • Share images on multiple devices
  • Back up files to hard-drive while shooting
  • Move images from laptop to desktop in an instant
  • Reduce the chance of image loss

Get efficient with Tethertools!
